The Whistles staff at the brand’s St Christopher’s Place showroom were super helpful when I went back for a ‘proper’ try-on, and it’s a great way to still feel like you get a bit of that ‘bridal shop experience’. The only thing left was a couple of small adjustments to the fit to take it from ‘almost perfect’ to ‘fits like a glove’. Whistles recommended Bride & Alter who, after two fittings, I can honestly say truly know their shit (not surprising considering they work with some of London’s biggest stores, as well as a fair few celebrity clients).
You might be lucky to find a dress that fits perfectly, and mine almost did. But it’s definitely worth keeping some budget back to see a great tailor to make those little tweaks that really make your dress feel made to measure. For me, that was taking just enough off the length that I didn’t trip up, a little pinch in at the back so it hugged me a bit more, and adding a wrist strap to the train for easy movement on the dance floor. They also added some lingerie clips which, with some carefully placed fashion tape, just helped add that extra bit of hold I needed to keep my bra straps hidden in place. They really go over and above to make the fitting experience feel special, with in-store veils to try on, spacious dressing rooms, huge mirrors and super warm, friendly service.
